100 Things To Do In O’ahu

Restaurants | Bars | Experiences

Amazing sunsets, ocean air, a great food and drinks scene, plenty to do, and Aloha spirit from the time you board the plane. Visit on a First Friday (any month) and catch an amazing festival celebration with fireworks. We searched Yelp to find the best spots to eat, drink, and do — so you don’t have to; here’s what we found:

Kailua Beach Adventures

Couldn’t have had a better experience with KBA! Staff took extra precautions with COVID-19 safety measures. You can book, sign the waivers, and watch the orientation/safety video all online with no contact. The staff all wear masks and are extra friendly and helpful.

My son and I hit up Popoia and Moku Nui and back in just under 4 hours. Next time we will book the full day and take our time stopping for a picnic.

Toa Luau

Over the years I have been to Luau’s at the big resorts, at the Polynesian Cultural Center, and at smaller venues. This one was by far the best! The family feeling with the quality and high energy show made it fun for our whole family which ranged from our three adult children to their three little ones. The four year old was engaged the whole time! Even with COVID regulations and masks it did not dampen the fun. Please don’t hesitate to go to this Luau. You won’t be disappointed.

Hawaiian Island Cafe

I just moved to the island about a month ago. After quarantine was over and I got my car, I was able to take my first drive around the island. I came across this place when I was looking for a spot out of the blue. I am so happy I did! Even though I live on the other side of the island, I will be back! I have also recommended this place to anyone who asks for a good place to eat.

Haleiwa Beach House

This is my absolute new favorite restaurant on the entire island. I came on vacation and made the mistake of staying in a tourist tap in Waikiki. Stuck with mediocre food. I found the beach house restaurant and was so happy I did. Between the vibe this place has during sunset and the delicious food. I had the curry dinner it was delish. Wishing this restaurant the best of luck and we will be back once the lockdown is complete. If you’re on the island this is must eat at.

Lulumahu Falls

This hike is hands down in my top 3 hikes on Oahu. It is a very easy beautiful hike. Once you enter the best and easiest route to go on is taking a right into the bamboo forest and following the road path way all the way to the end and going into the pathway, follow the colored tape!

I love this hike because it leads to an amazing waterfall that is absolutely beautiful! Its about a 2 hr hike there and back if yo dont stop to take any photos, but who wouldnt take photos of themselves in front of a 30-50 foot waterfall! Just make sure you always follow the colored tapes! there are so many trails, you could be going on a different path.

Restaurant Kuni & Lounge

Restaurant Kunio has met the challenges in our new 2021 world. They continue to safely provide excellent dishes while dining in or with take out orders.
I always enjoy dining in, the customer service and ambience of Kunio’s ensures comfort while indulging a meal from their brilliant menu.
Rid eye steak on a sizzling platter with teriyaki sauce on the side has got to be one of my favorites. And if you are really hungry you can add a lobster tail to the platter.

Staxx Sports Bar & Grill

The atmosphere is chill and laid back! All the food we had was bomb. We ordered the pulehu steak with onions and mush, Korean style chicken wings, and the staxx special which is tater tots, nanakuli special sauce, and noodles. Recommend!!

Kahuku Farms

I absolutely LOVE LOVE this farm!! This place has been on my list for years. I finally convinced my friend who’s never gone, to travel with me all the way to Kahuku. It was a 45 minute drive from where we lived. We would make the day out of it with scenic stops and pictures. Not much to do due to Covid, but we were able to stop at China mans hat and Laie Point. It was nice to enjoy nature’s beauty without the influx of tourists.

I second all the excellent reviews Salsamor has received so far. My friend was in town visiting and we planned many things that took us both out of our comfort zone. We came to Salsamor to participate in the salsa (actually salsa, bachata, and merengue) lessons and stayed to dance until after midnight. We had the best time!

Mari’s Gardens

We LOVE visiting Mari’s Garden on the weekends. This place is such a gem! It is definitely a popular spot and can get pretty crowded. We like to come during the morning when it’s not too hot yet. They have a small parking lot but you can also just park on the side of the road leading to Mari’s.

Uncle Bo’s Haleiwa

I am so glad that Uncle Bo’s in Haleiwa reopened!! They are opened during COVID from 4 to 8 and the food, drinks, and customer service remain A++! I love the food but the ambience and feel of real Aloha really make this place super special!

Sea Breeze Homes 2 homes, Views of Beautiful Bay, AC

The property is excellent in all ways. The Pham sisters are great hosts and can’t do enough for those staying here. Everything about this property was exactly as we had invisioned. Hats off to everyone responsible for this property.

Liko’s Tap & Table

I really love Liko’s. From the atmosphere to the food and drink, you really can’t go wrong here. Patio Brunch? Check! Sunset Cocktails? Check! French fries on the menu? Check! It has everything I’m looking for. I always thought Hawaii Kai needed more low-key spots to hang out and chill with a few drinks and food. They are definitely busy, but it’s never too difficult to get a spot.

North Shore Shark Adventures

WOW!!!! The experience could not have been more out of this world! It was exhilarating was start to finish!

The crew was kind. The boat was spotless and big. The sharks were PLENTIFUL! The water was warm! We even saw whales!!! I could not have asked for a better experience. It was glorious!!!

Thank you for helping me to check this off my bucket list North Shore!

Beer Lab HI

Just as awesome as the one on University. Staff is beyond helpful and friendly. Excellent selection of beer to choose from and plenty of seating. Wasn’t very crowded for a Sunday afternoon. Will stop again when I’m near this mall.

Tipsy Pig II Bar & Grill

The service Is excellent and so is the food! You can’t beat the quality and price! They get everything out to us so fast and efficiently. With covid going on they really know how to adapt to change and they make sure we are safe by keeping within safety guidelines. 10/10 recommend this location. This has definitely become my new regular spot.

Ali’i Coffee

This was hands down the best coffee I had in all of Honolulu. Randomly stopped in for a cold brew and bagel and was blown away. Masks are required and there are a few seats if you want to dine in.

You can order any drink vegan, non-dairy creamer. The gentleman was so nice and offered lots of options. The bagel was savory with fresh salmon, definitely not bland by any means.

Wish I would have purchased the coffee beans to take home. If you haven’t given this gem a try, stop in. You’re welcome!

Gunstock Ranch

My sister and I went to Oahu to visit my brother and his wife. We decided we wanted to do a horseback riding tour and I’m sooooo glad I found Gunstock Ranch. We booked the sunset time mountain ride and it was beautiful. Reservation was easy, checking in was a breeze, and surprisingly, only our family was part of the group so great for Covid times. Hannah was our guide and she was great! She was so nice, engaging, and considerate for the slower horses.
Gunstock Ranch has great prices, awesome staff, amazing views, and beautiful horses. Highly recommend!

Coral Crater Adventure Park

I have been there twice this year (during Covid). Both times I had an amazing time! The first time I went with my sister and really good friend for the obstacle course. The second time I went for my niece’s eighth birthday party, also on the obstacle course. I don’t have enough good things to say about this place! They are super flexible with accommodating people and everyone on the staff is super friendly and nice. I love it so much there, that I bought my brother-in-law a Christmas present to return before the end of the year for the ATVing and Zipling tours. If you are looking for a great time and an easy gift, this is the place to go!

Inu Island Ales

Love this spot! It’s not the most aesthetic but that doesn’t matter. The beer is here is special. This is the only place on the island that delivers a proper sour beer. It is truly incredible.

Surfers Coffee

I walked by Surfers Coffee on my way back from picking up some takeout for lunch. Something about the vibe drew me in. Their musical playlist was smooth and rhythmic that had a whole island feel. The inside was very clean. Mind you this is mid COVID-19 so takeout was the only option. Aside from the beats, I liked the setup and available options. I ordered an iced americano. While ordering, I noticed that they offer Stumptown coffee. As an Oregon, PNW native, I appreciate any business that uses Northwest coffee. That is some quality bean!

Custom Beachfront Home – Island Living at its Best

Was a wonderful place to stay for our family vacation. Did not want to leave. Terri was so thoughtful from top to bottom. We had towels, shampoo, conditioners, body wash prepared for us. Even coffee pods! Even laundry detergent!

Mami’s Empanadas

Best empanadas I’ve had in my life and I’ve tried a lot of empanada places in Toronto – nothing comes close. Everything is made fresh daily so the flavours can vary. What’s available for the day will be written on a chalkboard in the front. All the empanada orders come with sauces, there’s 3 – a green spicy one, pink one (can’t recall the exact flavour) and the white garlic. I was biased towards green and white. You can get 1 empanada for $3 or 4 for $10.

Byodo-In Temple

The wanderlust itch is real! 2020 has been wild and not being able to travel has been driving me insane! The desire to travel has been stronger than ever. Thankfully, one of my favorite things about living in Hawaii (besides the food) is the unique blend of cultures that can be seen everywhere!

Haleiwa Joe’s

Wow, simply wow. This place is incredible! Great food, service, and of course views! We showed up at 4:10pm on a Monday and it was already filling up! This place is POPULAR! They maintained social distancing and covid guidelines. The food was all delicious! I liked the guava butter and the luau crab dip in particular but my fish with lobster sauce was also incredible! They don’t take reservations but you can walk around the gardens as you wait.

Hands down one of the best Mexican food spots on the island. The food is consistently delicious, the drinks are amazing and the staff are friendly and super helpful. During this time of social distancing, they’ve managed to maintain their high quality, despite a lot of food ingredients not being readily available due to government regulations and shortages.

Adela’s Country Eatery

W…O…W, this place gave me a food coma. We were in Kailua for a Sunday afternoon and decided to pick up dinner. I told my husband let’s try Adela’s. He never heard of it but I’ve heard such wonderful reviews about Adela’s that I wanted to try.

Happy Trails Hawaii

I cannot stop talking about how pleasant my experience at Happy Trails was. The crew from start to finish was professional, well-trained and welcoming. Marc and Casey made our party feel very comfortable by thoroughly explaining every step of the process. Casey guided the tour and was a DREAM! She is smart, funny and took the best photos along the way.

The Beach House by 604

I’m so glad to see this restaurant bustling with people while maintaining compliance with COVID restrictions. The singer, who sang mostly Hawaiian songs, was very talented and the beautiful ocean behind him served as the background of his stage. The restaurant’s proximity to the ocean is amazing. My group of 6 ordered different items and we were all very pleased. My salmon bomb (see photo) was super fresh and super delicious. Dining here again very soon!

A View to Die for! 3 bedroom 3 bath on the sand at Waikiki Beach

Was easy to love this place! Tommy and Tracy have created a perfect spot to enjoy Honolulu! We enjoyed cooking and eating dinners on the lanai! Thank you for a wonderful place for my family to be able to get away and enjoy our time together! Highly recommend!!! Mahalo!

Nocturnal Adventures Hawaii

A truly one-of-a-kind experience. Reserve your Friday night for the Nocturnal Adventure! You meet up with your paddleboard instructors a little before sunset on Waikiki Beach. They usually take a group of about 10? They give you a quick lesson and you paddle out into the water while enjoying the beautiful sunset view ON the sea. It’s not as challenging as one might think! Then the cherry on top: the Friday fireworks show. Seeing the fireworks reflect on the ocean while you’re in the water – wow – it’s just breathtaking. That alone makes it 1000% worth it! Highly recommend.

Even though the name suggests Ebi specialists, this place offer one of the best beef stew. We stopped by right before their closing time and they were out of ceviche. So we order the beef stew. It was so yummy and was enough for two people. We shall be back for shrimp dishes next!

Hawaiian Style Cooking Classes

This was totally a surprise how Awesome this cooking class was. Our Host and Instructor was not only very experienced and friendly, but she made us feel like we were guest in her home. This was a gift for friends who don’t cook. So to see their faces while preparing the dishes as well as their reactions when we all sat down to eat the meal they’d just prepared. Priceless!!!
Mucho Mahalos & Huge Aloha to Linda @ Hawaiian Style Cooking Classes for a A+, one of a kind, island style cooking experience!

CLIMB Works Keana Farms

Worth every penny. If you’re in Oahu, zip lining at Keana Farms is a must. Our guides (Connor, Bella and Sam I think) were a really fun group to be with – they were super knowledgeable, safe and also really entertaining. This entire experience is about 3 hours long, with little breaks in between so be aware if you get tired easily (and wear sunscreen). There are water stations spread out intermittently, which was especially nice during the afternoon time slots and high beat. Due to covid, the fruit / nut sampling is out of commission, but honestly you’re here for the lines and not the food, so we weren’t disappointed. After the first zip line, you take a 10 minute ATV ride where the guides point out interesting spots throughout the area, then after this point you’re on your feet / in the air.

Poke For The People

Great food, nice staff, and call ahead ordering available. The Keiki option is great for my toddler, the adults enjoyed their poke bowls, and the fish is fresh. When calling ahead, ask about their specials too. During the pandemic, the North Shore has been less populated with tourists. Though this may be nice for us locals, it does take away a giant portion of clientele from the eateries out here. So, please consider supporting local businesses!

South Shore Grill

This is THE go-to spot for fresh, flavorful post-swim/dive/surf tacos. I’ve taken friends, family, and dates here and I probably stop by once a week by myself to grab my favorite kalbi and Cajun fish tacos.
I’m not mad at the Mac salad either.
The service is fast and friendly, and the food is delivered through the kitchen window super quick and perfectly cooked.
A much-loved staple in the neighborhood!

Suzie Wong’s Hideaway

Best drink prices, in town! Cleanest bathrooms possible, for a dive bar. Cute lanai in the back. ATM machine in the corner. Fun and quirky Hawaiiana decor. Every major fight broadcasted without a cover charge…for now. Cash-operated pool table. Food truck with good eats, in the parking lot.
Fun merch you can buy as souvenirs for friends & family. Their shirts and tank tops are super comfortable.

Dolphins and You

Just got off the boat. Had an amazing time. Booked a trip for my birthday. And it was very fun. Not only did we see lots of dolphins but we got to see whales too. The crew was very fun and super friendly. Since I live on the island I do plan on taking a trip with them again in the near future. Mahalo crew for an amazing birthday. You guys rock.

Waffle and Berry

Yum! Located on the farthest left corner of the store when you enter the main doors. Friendly service and delicious fresh waffles. There’s outdoor seating area and they can also pack the ice cream and whipped cream separately if you want to take away. Love the one with fresh sweet berries. If you take it to go, you can warm the waffles up in the oven and it’s just as good as if you eat it right there. Highly recommended!

Moani Island Bistro & Bar

The music, the food, the staff, the atmosphere; everything here feels just right. After hearing so many great things about this place, we finally got to try it for ourselves.

In addition to our pitchers of beer, we tried the Spicy Ahi Nachos, Unko Tom’s Smoked Meat, Moani Special Fried Rice, Mr. Cheng’s Tofu, Char Siu Grilled Pork Belly, and the Pupule Poke. All the food was absolutely amazing and they give very generous portions. I have no complaints about the food, and who can go wrong with a pitcher of Heineken Light, am I right?

The food came out pretty quick, even though they were busy, and everyone who works there is so attentive and welcoming. I can’t wait to come back here and try the rest of the food on their menu!

Kualoa Ranch

Take all my money! This was by far The best experience I had while in Hawaii. The UTVs were worth it and it’s especially fun when it rains. The valley looks like nothing you have ever seen before. The green is the greenest green you’ll ever see and the dinosaur bones were the topping on the cake. The views and the photos were gorgeous and out of this world. The guides were even better than I anticipated. I felt safe throughout the entire experience and The facilities were really well-maintained.

Luxury Ocean View at Kahala Beach

Our Kahala Beach Apartment sits on one of the most valuable strips of beachfront in Hawaii. This Elegant apartment is Beachfront resort-style Living at its best. The Apartment is steps away from the 4 star Kahala Hotel with its Elegant dining Facilities and spas. Sit back and relax on one of the large Oceanfront enclosed lanais.

Tonkatsu Tamafuji

This place is like dining in Japan if it wasn’t hot outside you wouldn’t know the difference.
Food is excellent ,service is great ! only thing I don’t like it is the parking but can find lots of street parking.
I will be back here again.

Dolphin Excursions Hawaii

We had an incredible time today with Lexy and Mandy out on the boat. They navigated us to be able to see whales, then swim with turtles and dolphins. The trip felt very safe (Covid-related) and they were knowledgeable and helpful. I highly highly recommend it!!

Kō Hana Distillers

It was an amazing experience! It wasn’t just a tasting but a history, science, and tasting in one! Wonderful guide, really incredible rum, and just a good company to support. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Paradise Air Hawaii

This is an awesome experience for anyone wanting to do something thrilling and different. I was looking for something fun to do to get out of the house during the Covid 19 pandemic and I found Paradise Air Hawaii. It’s such an awesome thing to do. You and your pilot will take off together and fly around Kaena Point and the North Shore area by Dillingham. They will let you fly the aircraft yourself the entire time if you really want to. They really know what they are doing and you never feel unsafe. You are masked up most of the time and while you are in the air you have a visor over your face so you can pull your mask down and smile for photos and videos. If your local or students you can get photos or videos included in your package for free. It’s a great deal. It’s a much longer experience than skydiving and you are literally flying. Definitely check this place out and give it a try.

Ron Artis Family

I agree words are hard to describe the amazing feel you get from this glorious family and their generosity and just plain great feeling you get when you leave. They are true Hawaiians happy and just amazing talented souls. . It doesnt matter if I am on a different island I make sure I come and visit the Artis familia.

It is seriously something one must experience in life before they die to meet and hang with this family.

Aloha Shrimp

Their spicy garlic shrimp plate dinners are excellent and arguably the best on Oahu. Plenty of huge shrimp (no heads) cooked just right in a delectable sauce (several to choose from). Lots of free parking and picnic tables to eat on (although with pandemic we do not choose to eat there). No bathroom. Located on Kam Hwy., Pat’s at Punaluu. Quick service (no one else there during the pandemic).

Kualoa Ranch

If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii, the Jurassic Park Movie Tour should be on the “to-do” list. This was one of the fun tours I’ve done. The tour is in an open window bus. Our driver Devin was so funny, he had these corny jokes but it kept us entertained. The tour itself is 90 minutes long with a few stops to take pictures and they have a little museum building with different props from movies that were filmed at the Ranch. The scenic views during the tour was spectacular – bright blue ocean water, jungle green hills, historic agricultural. They have a gift shop, and a small food court. Parking is free… was the tour based solely on the movie Jurassic Park? No. Which is a little disappointing but I can’t complain because the beauty of Hawaii is the island itself and we had a blast.

Experience Nutridge

What an amazing surprise. I can easily say the most extraordinary experience during our trip to Oahu. The Experience Nutridge staff and Mr. David truly made us feel welcome with the true Aloha spirit like real Ohana. If you are coming to Oahu please don’t leave without visiting even my 14 year old learned and enjoyed more than what she was anticipating. Highly recommended for the whole family!

North Shore EcoTours

We were on the Huaka’i Nui (Big Adventure) tour in March and it was amazing! Our tour guide, Keola, was extremely knowledgeable and informative and was kind enough to give us a bonus view since we had some spare time. The hike is a true intermediate to advance hike. I found it more challenging than the day hike I did on the Appalachian Trail. Good hiking shoes are a must, and you will get wet crossing the streams. You should also bring a good day pack to carry in your water, lunch, and dry socks and clothes. The scenery is beautiful and we would do this hike again in a heartbeat.
