Viral Image Shows Outdated Claims About Detroit Voter Rolls

Facebook users are sharing a meme that alleges a host of inaccuracies in Detroit’s voter rolls in the context of the 2020 election. But the claims stem from a 2019 lawsuit that was withdrawn after the group that filed it said the city had taken action on the issues.

Florida has never seen a tax collector like Joel Greenberg.

Florida has never seen a tax collector like Joel Greenberg.

His Seminole County tax office was the only one in the state where employees were armed with pistols and body armor. He wore his own law enforcement badge and carried a sidearm at tax collector conferences. He let people pay property taxes with Bitcoin. He tweeted Islamophobic comments, installed a remote-controlled sprinkler system to spray petition gatherers he didn’t like and doled out fat contracts to his groomsmen shortly after winning the usually humdrum Orlando-area office with a campaign to stop “crony capitalism.”

Trump made congressional investigations almost impossible. This time is different.

The House of Representatives doesn’t exactly have a great record when it comes to fights with former President Donald Trump. Over the course of two years, Trump managed to scuttle, stymie or stonewall every investigation into his misconduct that congressional Democrats threw his way. That included not one but two impeachment inquiries, the biggest gun in Congress’ constitutional arsenal.

Trump counted on the separation of powers to shield him — the head of the executive branch — from legislative branch inquires. But the investigation that kicked off Tuesday has the potential to be different. This time around, the House may not be willing to take no for an answer.

Williams, M. – LAC (WR33)

Mike Williams Fantasy Football Outlook (2021) (7/9) Advice: How often can you find a wide receiver being drafted outside the top 40 who’s capable of posting WR1-type numbers? Williams fits that bill. He already has a 1,000-yard season on his resume. He also has a 10-touchdown season on it. He also happens to have one of the brightest young stars as his quarterback with little else on the depth chart outside of Keenan Allen. Health has been the biggest question mark for Williams, but once you’re outside the top-40 wide receivers, there’s hardly guaranteed production on the board, so take the upside. (FantasyPros.com)

How MyPillow CEO’s delusions endanger democracy

Anne Applebaum talks about her recent profile of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and his efforts to sow doubt about the 2020 election. While Lindell will fail to get Donald Trump reinstated, ‘what he will help to do is loosen further American’s sense that their democracy works, that their voter system is secure, that the people who observe and monitor their elections are honest,” she says.

How Republicans Are Warping Reality Around the Capitol Attack

Immediately after the attack on the U.S. Capitol, all corners of the political spectrum repudiated the mob of President Donald Trump’s supporters. Yet within days, prominent Republicans, party officials, conservative media voices and rank-and-file voters began making a rhetorical shift to try to downplay the group’s violent actions.

Cohen, T. – Chi (RB)

2021 fantasy player outlook for Tarik Cohen, RB, Chicago Bears (6/23) Advice: Cohen missed most of 2020 with a torn ACL and David Montgomery had a major breakout. That makes Cohen’s role in 2021 more mysterious than it was heading into last season. For that reason, Cohen should be treated as a low-end No. 3 running back in PPR worth a pick no sooner than Round 8. In non-PPR he’s a flier in the double-digit rounds. (CBSSports.com)

Why Trump should resign today

Donald Trump probably could not have been a worse person to lead Americans through the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is a man who “fueled confusion and conspiracies from the earliest days of the coronavirus pandemic,” as PolitiFact recently documented in its annual “Lie of the Year” designation. The nonpartisan group gave its 2020 “award” to “coronavirus downplay and denial”— in which it said Trump had been the conductor of the “symphony of counter narrative” about the virus.

A TIMELINE OF DONALD TRUMP’S WAR ON PUBLIC LANDS

Immediately after he took office, on January 20, 2017, President Donald Trump and his officials began opening up public lands to the energy industry. Ever since, it’s been hard to keep track of all the regulation rollbacks and revoked protections.

Dynasty 2021 Rookie Stock Watch **Season Preview and Way Too Early Rankings**

Folks, we are a little over 1 month away from the 2021 Draft, and the hype train is slowly building up. Like you, I’m looking ahead with great anticipation to the Draft and a summer of freedom after I get my vaccines.
Before the 2020 season started, I did a mildly popular Rookie Stock Watch with weekly updates throughout the entire season and a final report last month. The 2020 class was truly special but our work continues. We’re now looking ahead to the 2021 class. This first post will be to attempt to establish a bit of a baseline for where I feel the players stand while their draft capital is speculative and their landing spot is completely unknown (except for Trevor Lawrence, who we can assume is 1.01 and a Jaguar).

Hardman, M. – KC (WR)

2021 fantasy player outlook for Mecole Hardman, WR, Kansas City Chiefs (6/23) Advice: Is this the year Mecole Hardman breaks out for Fantasy managers? Replacing Sammy Watkins as the Chiefs’ No. 2 receiver is something he’ll compete for in training camp, but through two seasons he has nine games with 10-plus PPR points and four outings with over 70 yards. Obviously a bump in targets from the 3.9 per game he had last season would help — Watkins had 5.5 per game in 2020. A strong training camp along with clear signs he’s playing ahead of Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle would give Hardman some value after pick No. 100 on Draft Day. His value rises if special-teams yardage counts since he’s been the Chiefs’ primary punt returner and dabbles in kick returns. He’s also worth sneaking onto rosters as a quasi-handcuff for Tyreek Hill since he’d theoretically replace him in the Chiefs offense if Hill missed time. (CBSSports.com)

Obama called Trump a ‘corrupt motherf—er,’ a ‘racist, sexist pig,’ and a ‘f—ing lunatic,’ a new book reportedly says

After leaving office in 2017, President Barack Obama, known for his affable nature, largely didn’t speak out against his successor, President Donald Trump.

But by the time the 2020 presidential campaign came around, the gloves were off.

With Joe Biden in the throes of a campaign to unseat an incumbent president, Obama made several high-profile campaign appearances for his former vice president where he slammed Trump.

He also voiced plenty of R-rated criticism of Trump behind the scenes, according to “Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Donald Trump,” a new book by Edward-Isaac Dovere, a staff writer at The Atlantic. The Guardian on Wednesday reported on excerpts from the book, set to be released next week.

Mark Brunell: 2021 Lions could surprise like 1996 Jaguars

Early in Mark Brunell’s playing career, the expectations for the mid-1990s Jacksonville Jaguars were exceedingly low. Coming off an expansion season in which the Jags won just four games with the first-time starting QB, no one predicted an AFC Championship run in 1996.
As he begins his pro coaching career in Detroit as quarterbacks coach, Brunell said the 2021 Lions remind him of that Jaguars team.

Trump Reveals Extent of Pandemic Damage to Business Empire

Donald Trump’s empire has been hit hard by coronavirus closures, with revenue from his Washington and Las Vegas hotels down by more than half.

In his last financial disclosure form as president, Trump detailed the damage the pandemic has wrought, at a time when many tourism businesses are suffering from a lack of travelers. As president, the real-estate magnate resisted policies to slow the pandemic through mask-wearing, and insisted it remained safe for people to travel domestically.

Michael Cohen predicts Trump will turn on family after revelation of criminal probe

Michael Cohen, former President Trump’s ex-lawyer, said he thinks Trump will turn on his family following news that the New York attorney general is investigating the Trump Organization in a “criminal capacity” as well as a “civil capacity.”

“I think Donald Trump is going to flip on all of them. What do you think about that? Including his children,” Cohen told host Joy Reid on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut.”

Cohen said that the “problem” with Trump is that “it’s never ever Donald Trump. It’s always somebody else.”
