NOAA’s updated hurricane outlook calls for even more storms in 2021

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Wednesday updated its 2021 Atlantic hurricane seasonal forecast, slightly increasing expectations for the number of named storms and powerful hurricanes.

Why it matters: With the U.S. already reeling from extreme heat and wildfires, disaster response agencies are overstretched. A particularly destructive and active hurricane season could overwhelm some of its response capacity.

Jimmy Kimmel Pulls Best Prank Ever on Cousin Micki

Jimmy’s cousin Micki is easily one of the kindest, most considerate and genuinely good people ever. In addition to being nice beyond reason, she is also fun to play pranks on. Five years ago Micki and her husband Eric bought their first house from a woman named Carol who chose them over several other people who made higher offers. As a show of gratitude, Micki invited her to come back and use the house anytime. Many years later Micki still keeps in touch with Carol always inviting her to visit, always welcoming, always thankful. So, Jimmy had some free time over the summer, made a fake email address for Carol, and set in motion what is perhaps the greatest prank he has ever pulled.

Bad week in Trumpland signals hope for American democracy

The last five years’ deluge of disinformation and discord make it easy to lose faith in democracy, something never helpful to preserving it. Just when many lamented the Republican pilgrimages to Mar-a-Lago as signs of Trump’s iron-fisted hold on his party, his control visibly faltered last week. Earlier polling had already shown a slip.

Still, Trump’s bad week does not mean that it’s time for foes of authoritarianism to rejoice or for anyone to assume that American democracy is out of danger.

Predicting fantasy football sleepers and breakouts for 2021

As football enthusiasts shift their focus to the 2021 season, here are some under-the-radar fantasy football sleepers and breakout players to consider when drafting.

Here is a look at each major position on offense and where to find the best value in your fantasy football drafts.

Lock, D. – Den (QB)

2021 fantasy player outlook for Drew Lock, QB, Denver Broncos (6/23) Advice: Drew Lock is expected to compete for the Denver starting quarterback job with Teddy Bridgewater. It’s no sure thing he will win. His 73.6% adjusted completion rate ranked 21st among qualified passers, his 5.8 adjusted yards per pass attempt put him 31st, his 3.6% touchdown rate rated him 27th, and his 3.4% interception rate was third highest. Not good. Unless that changes during the preseason, Lock will be a risky, benched-at-any-time, uninspiring middle- to late-round pick in two-QB and Superflex leagues and a no-go in any other format. Bogus Theory Claims Supercomputer Switched Votes in Election

A baseless conspiracy theory claims that a secret supercomputer was used to switch millions of votes from Donald Trump to Joe Biden. Experts — and the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency — have said the theory is a hoax and that safeguards, including paper trails, would deter such an effort.

Officers give emotional testimony at Capitol riot select committee hearing

The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot held its first hearing on Tuesday, with emotional testimony from four law enforcement officers who defended the building that day. The officers spoke — at times angrily — about the physical and psychological injuries they sustained and gave a rare, first-hand look at the types of attacks they and their fellow officers suffered.

The officers are among the few who have told their stories in the press, and Tuesday marked the first time they appeared together to give official testimony.

Five takeaways from gripping officer testimony at the first January 6 hearing

The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack at the Capitol held its first hearing on Tuesday with harrowing testimony from four officers who shared their stories of being attacked by the rioters.

The three-hour hearing was the opening act for the committee that’s preparing to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the January 6 insurrection, including the role played by former President Donald Trump. But the first hearing was focused squarely on the violence officers faced at the hands of a mob of Trump supporters.
Here are five takeaways from the committee’s first hearing:

Brown, A. – TB (WR)

2021 fantasy player outlook for Antonio Brown, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6/23) Advice: Brown finally returned to NFL action in 2020 by joining Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. Although at times he flashed what made him so unstoppable with Pittsburgh (the ability to create separation at all three levels with explosive after-the-catch ability), he put it all together in just one game. Brown was efficient in the red zone and has been at his most efficient there (small sample size) with Brady. Although the path to volume in Tampa seems blocked, talent and rapport can win out, making Brown a plus late-round flier. (CBSSports.com)

Trump wants Supreme Court to overturn Pa. election results

Undeterred by dismissals and admonitions from judges, President Donald Trump’s campaign continued with its unprecedented efforts to overturn the results of the Nov 3. election Sunday, saying it had filed a new petition with the Supreme Court.

Mayfield, B. – Cle (QB)

2021 fantasy player outlook for Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns (6/23) Advice: For Fantasy purposes Baker Mayfield is a No. 2 quarterback best rostered in Dynasty leagues or leagues where you can start more than one quarterback. Mayfield’s efficiency rebounded in his first year under Kevin Stefanski, but Stefanski’s run-heavy scheme severely limits a pocket passer’s upside. Mayfield threw 30 or fewer passes in 10 of 16 games and only topped 300 yards passing twice in 2020. It’s possible he could be your best bet as a backup, but only if the schedule lines him up for a shootout in your starter’s bye week. (CBSSports.com)

Jaylen Waddle Draft Scout

Jaylen Waddle’s labored trot on and off the field was obvious to everyone in Hard Rock Stadium on Monday night. Also evident was the junior wide receiver’s desire to play in a national championship game less than three months after fracturing his ankle. Waddle caught three passes for 34 yards in Alabama’s 52-24 win over Ohio State, playing a limited role for an offense that did not need its most explosive playmaker but welcomed his presence on the biggest stage of the season. “I have a lot of respect for Jaylen Waddle, his mental toughness and his ability to be able to come back,” coach Nick Saban said Tuesday.
Waddle had not played since Oct. 24 but returned to practice last week. He went through about a 25-minute pregame warmup before giving coaches the go-ahead that he would play. That put into motion a plan that saw Waddle not start the game but enter late on the first drive of the game. On his first play, Waddle caught a pass over the middle from quarterback Mac Jones and turned downfield for a 15-yard gain. “We just had a limited plan for him,” Saban said. “We really had, like, plays that he could run where he could run in a straight line and didn’t have to do a lot of cutting, didn’t have to do a lot of route running and changing direction, doing some of the things he’s so good at, which is going in motion, running bubbles, orbits, all that kind of stuff. – Birmingham News

Mac Jones Highlights

Alabama QB Mac Jones
Junior 6’3 214 lbs

After losing star QB Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama turned to Mac Jones & the offense hasn’t taken much of a drop off. Of course, it helps to have potential 1st round offensive playmakers in Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith & Najee Harris, but Jones has been the leader. He’s made impressive throws all over the field & has a chance to win the Heisman. While Kyle Trask leads the nation in passing touchdowns, it’s Jones who many view as the current Heisman favorite. This can change, but as of right now Mac Jones is in the driver’s seat leading the No. 1 team in the country.

Former Houston police captain accused of holding repairman at gunpoint in attempt to prove voter fraud

A former Houston police captain was charged with assault Tuesday after running a man off the road and holding him at gunpoint in an effort to prove what authorities have called a bogus voter fraud scheme. Mark Aguirre claimed an air conditioner repairman was the mastermind of the scheme and said he believed the man’s truck was filled with fraudulent ballots when he ran his SUV into it on Oct. 19, according to authorities.
