With the 2021 Fantasy Football season on the horizon, it’s time to get into the nasty work: hunting for the nuggets. These are the players that rise from up the ranks from generally unknowns into important players owners will need to build out their rosters in hopes of competing for a championship.

While star players can certainly carry you to a championship and win it for you, it’s the role players that can really make the difference. They can build depth and give you an edge over your opponents that only care about their starting lineup. Acquiring these diamonds in the rough always help a few fantasy teams in each league every year.

TE Donald Parham Jr. - LA Chargers

Rostered in 0% of leagues on yahoo

A stud TE coming out of little school Stetson, Parham ended up in the XFL where he dominated and landed himself a spot with the Chargers last year. Still only 23, the 6’8” 255 lb standout has hit top speeds over 21 mph in games and is incredibly agile with really good hands. While the Jared Cook signing will be the focus to those not in the know, and assuming they don’t do something like draft Kyle Pitts, it seems clear the Chargers felt comfortable letting Hunter Henry go because they liked what they had with Parham. The Chargers have had to deal with Travis Kelce and Darren Waller 4 games a year and I’m sure they’re hoping Parham and Herbert can make some sweet music and torture some defenses with this absurd mismatch.

WR Marquez Callaway - New Orleans Saints

Rostered in 0% of leagues on yahoo

Undrafted last year Marquez Callaway showed the chops and is inline to be the Saints next great undrafted steal. Without any preseason the coaching staff saw enough out of Callaway to put him on the field and he delivered. His physical profile is very similar to Michael Thomas and if Callaway continues where he left off last year, plus the departure of Emmanuel Sanders, he could be Jameis Winston’s second most targeted receiver.

RB Ty Johnson - New York Jets

Rostered in 15% of leagues on yahoo

The 2 top running backs on the New York Jets are Ty Johnson and L. Perine. It’s possible they use their 2nd round pick on a running back but it’s probably more likely they’ll go OL and add to their RB room a little later. Either way they did not sign a big name or commit a big contract yet and Ty Johnson looked solid last year.

WR Donovan Peoples-Jones - Cleveland Browns

Rostered in 1% of leagues on yahoo

The athletic freak out of Michigan had a solid rookie year. The wide receiver room is a little crowded with the return of OBJ but DPJ should Urban Meyer shared his feelings that DPJ was a top 10 pick in the NFL and he looked like it when given the opportunity last year. He may not get a major bump with OBJ and Landry both on the field but he has the talent that is bound to be put on display.

WR Devin Duvernay - Baltimore Ravens

Rostered in 1% of leagues on yahoo

The Ravens are looking to get Duvernay more involved in his 2nd year out of Texas. This could lead to a major bump for Duvernay because he is the perfect WR for Lamar Jackson to work the field and make easy completions and let the YAC monster do his thing.

WR Travis Fulgham - Philadelphia Eagles

Rostered in 25% of leagues on yahoo

The Eagles have parted ways with their veterans, moving Fulgham into the starting lineup. He may face competition from the draft but the odds are he’ll be Philadelphia’s starting X.

WR Gabriel Davis - Buffalo Bills

Rostered in 9% of leagues on yahoo

Gabriel Davis is a stud and should continue to improve alongside Josh Allen. Look for him to be Buffalo’s number 2 wideout next year.
