Here is what happen in sports this month:
The Carolina Panthers send picks to Atlanta, pounce on their quarterback of the future
In my first mock of the 2021 NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 29 – May 1, I have quarterbacks going first and second overall — something we haven’t seen since Jared Goff and Carson Wentz were taken with the top two picks in the 2016 draft. Remember, this mock is a projection of where I believe players will go — not necessarily a reflection of my opinion as to where the players should go.
After another late-season collapse in 2020, the Silver and Black made an important change thereafter. Gus Bradley has replaced Paul Guenther as defensive coordinator, the former leading a historically bad defense.
Several sportsbooks see free-agent quarterback and long-time Cincinnati Bengals starter Andy Dalton among odds-on favorites to replace Philip Rivers as the Indianapolis Colts’ starting QB.
We’re down to about a fortnight now.
It feels as though it was just yesterday when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were whipping the Vince Lombardi Trophy around above the deep waters of the Hillsborough River, but that’s ancient history in terms of the NFL offseason, and free agency is already a memory.
We’re into the final countdown for the 2021 draft. And with basically the entire predraft process complete, we’re able to mock the draft with an increasingly clear picture.
Here’s our latest stab at it.
To say the Packers were happy to get him would probably be an understatement. The team thinks Rodgers can be an impact player for the Packers – on offense and special teams – right away.
“His pedigree, his performance in college at a big-time stage were things that comforted us and feeling like he could step in and be a productive player for us early in his career,” Gutekunst said.
Gutekunst and his staff were enamored with Rodgers’ fit in the Matt LaFleur offense. He said the Packers have been looking for this type of player – a dynamic playmaker in the slot – for at least the last two years.
The Senior Bowl is one of the most important mile markers in the NFL draft process every year, and now that this year’s all-star event is in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to look at how it may have impacted the early rounds.
While much of the debate around what the Cincinnati Bengals will do with the fifth pick in the 2021 NFL draft centers on which offensive lineman they will take, there is another option:
Leave it to a running back from Oakland and a doctor from Brooklyn to stage the year’s most ambitious crossover event.
Marshawn Lynch hosted the nation’s top infectious disease specialist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, for a conversation on COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy. The results? Thirty-two minutes that perfectly straddled the line between education and entertainment.
The latest mock draft offering from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein reinforces the position that the team will give newly-acquired Jared Goff every chance to prove himself as the team’s long-term solution at quarterback. It also addresses the team’s dire need at wide receiver.
Joe Burrow intends to be all the way back from his reconstructive knee surgery and starting for the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season.
And the team better have an upgraded offensive line in front of him.
Last season, Eagles wide receiver Travis Fulgham made the most of the first NFL action of his career.
The Eagles claimed Fulgham off waivers before signing him to the practice squad and when his number was called he instantly became a fan favorite.
Here are a few reasons why you should expect Fulgham to have a breakout season.
2021 NFL Mock Draft: Denver Broncos trade up for QB Trey Lance, Florida TE Kyle Pitts lands with the Miami Dolphins at No. 6
The trades involving San Francisco, Miami and Philadelphia have reshaped the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. It now seems all but a foregone conclusion that quarterbacks will come off the board with the first three picks in the draft, potentially forcing other QB-needy teams to move up to secure one of the top-five quarterbacks before the run ends. There’s a real chance that this run ends inside the top 10 picks, as it does in my second attempt at a 2021 mock draft.
DPJ played on both offense and special teams in his first NFL season and is poised for a breakout year in 2021.
There are several factors in his favor to help him break out in 2021.
Pete Prisco’s NFL picks for NFC, AFC title games: Aaron Rodgers sends Tom Brady home, Bills-Chiefs a thriller
Prisco reveals his picks for the conference championship games, including a one-point game in Kansas City
With the Super Bowl yet to be played, it’s, unfortunately, time for the Green Bay Packers to direct their full attention toward the offseason. While the more immediate need is to fill the defensive coordinator position, we’ll take a moment and focus on the all-important 2021 NFL Draft by conducting our own mock draft.
When it comes to the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, that has been the norm throughout the offseason – and the norm continues this week, with analysts unanimously continuing to project Clemson University quarterback Trevor Lawrence to the Jaguars there.
The 2021 NFL Draft is merely 25 days away! Let’s pass the time together until then by looking at who mock drafts have the Philadelphia Eagles taking with the No. 12 overall pick.
The Steelers have shown this past season that there is not an abundance of talent in the RB room.
Pittsburgh made it known pretty early this offseason that they believe the struggles with their offense stem from the running game. It is not an easy thing to disagree with as for the last 3 seasons the Steelers have failed to rank higher than 29th in rush yards per game. It is not as if there is no hope for the run game in 2021, but the failure to resign James Conner definitely puts a damper on things.
ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay released his latest mock draft, a two-rounder that involves some movement with the Lions at No. 7.
McShay mocked the Carolina Panthers moving up one spot with Detroit to make sure they can draft North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance. The Panthers give the Lions a third-round pick (No. 73) to move up the one spot.
Cowboys 2021 NFL mock draft tracker: We’ve reached peak consensus when it comes to Dallas’ pick at 10
How much mystery will there be when the Cowboys go on the clock at pick #10 in the 2021 NFL draft? If you believe the mock drafts, the position that the Cowboys take is already a known entity. We surveyed 10 recent mocks and all 10 had the Cowboys taking a cornerback at pick #10. Now they’re just debating of which one the Cowboys will take. Some of the argument is really just about which one is available at pick #10.
NFL mock draft 2021: Deshaun Watson looms large for Jets, Dolphins; Cowboys, Patriots make luxury picks
Super Bowl 55 is almost here, which means the final first-round draft order for the 2021 NFL Draft will become official with either the victorious Buccaneers or winning Chiefs picking last. In the latest Sporting News mock draft edition before the big game, there are plenty of shakeups in the top 30 picks, starting right away with No. 2.
Two-Round 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Five QBs gone in first eight picks; Bears, Steelers get QBs in Round 2
As the actual draft approaches, expect mock drafts to have the top five quarterbacks finding their way into the top 8. Also expect the second tier of QBs to sneak into Round 2, which is exactly what happens this week in our two-round mock draft.
Washington Football Team’s addition of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick could spell a career year for WR Terry McLaurin
Few wide receivers have been dealt a tougher hand than Terry McLaurin during his first two seasons in the league, but that could all change thanks to the free-agency acquisition of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The veteran signal-caller agreed to terms with the Washington Football Team on a one-year deal worth $10 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday. He will enter training camp as the presumptive Week 1 starter, with competition from Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen.
