5 Red Meats That Pair Perfectly With Cabernet Sauvignon

Red meat and Cabernet Sauvignon are often paired together because of their complementary flavor profiles and shared intensity. Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied red wine with rich flavors of black currant, blackberry, and cassis, which can stand up to the bold taste of red meat, such as beef or lamb. The tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon help to cut through the fat in red meat, creating a balanced and harmonious flavor combination. Additionally, the high alcohol content of Cabernet Sauvignon can help to enhance the flavors of the meat and make the overall dining experience more enjoyable.

Master The Classics: Vanilla Punch

Master The Classics: Harvey Wallbanger

The Harvey Wallbanger is said to have been invented in 1952 by three time world champion bartender Donato “Duke” Antone at the Blackwatch Bar in Los Angeles. That said, recent reasearch by cocktail writer Robert Simonson indicated that this is probably NOT the genesis of this particular cocktail. Firstly there is no verifiable evidence that a bar called the Blackwatch ever existed and according to Simonson’s research, Antone was living in Connecticut in the time period the drink was supposedly created. Other historians such as David Wondrich posit that it was possibly the marketing team of the McKesson Import Company that have credit for the drink’s creation. In the 1960’s they created a “Harvey Wallbanger” Sandal clad surfer mascot to promote the drink and it is known that a McKesson executive named George Bednar was instrumental in promoting the drink as a means of increasing sales of Galliano. So there you have it, everything we know about the Harvey Wallbanger! Enjoy the drink or at least the video of the drink!

Try these beer cocktails for fall!

Try these beer cocktails for fall! | Anders Erickson

Today I’m making beer cocktails that capture the tasty flavors of fall! This time each year I enjoy sipping on a beer while watching football (American football – for the international viewers), so I thought let’s use some of that beer in a cocktail – or three. Each drink calls for a different style of beer (porter/stout, IPA, Oktoberfest), but of course feel free to experiment with some of your favorite brews.
